Commemorative Tribute to U.S. Senator
Frank R. Lautenberg Secaucus
Junction is dedicated to U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) enacting Public
Law 106-346 as a lasting tribute to the man who championed the federal investment
necessary to construct this historic and revolutionary facility. a commemorative tribute
has been placed near the center of the rotunda of the Frank R. Lautenberg Station at
Secaucus Junction.
Lautenberg now in his 19th year
of service in the U.S. Senate has also demonstrated his strong support for other
transportation projects critical to New Jerseys success including securing funds for
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and fighting to save and modernize the Amtrak rail system.
The Lautenberg tribute includes an accompanying
plaque, which reads:
"It is with great honor, appreciation,
and respect that NJ Transit Corporation dedicates the Secaucus Junction Station to the
Honorable Frank R. Lautenberg.
During an exemplary and extraordinary productive
career in public service that now spans over two decades, Senator Lautenberg has been an
energetic advocate for New Jersey and for an efficient passenger rail system so crucial to
strengthening the States economy; improving the quality of life of its citizens;
decreasing traffic congestion; and reducing pollution.
The need for Secaucus Junction was evident for
many years; it took Senator Lautenberg, who had the skill, resource, and perseverance to
turn a drawing board idea into reality.
This magnificent commuter station stands here as
a result of Senator Lautenbergs vision and leadership. It is, therefore, both a
fitting and a tangible tribute to him.
The legacy of this outstanding New Jerseyan, the
Honorable Frank R. Lautenberg, will remain present in this building and in our memory. We
proudly dedicate Secaucus Junction Station in his honor."
