9th Annual Teterboro Airport 5K Run

Over 700 runners chased a "pace plane" up and down the main runway at Teterboro Airport for the 5K (or 3.1 mile) course. "Mini-flyer Dashes" (25-200 yards) for children 2 through 12 followed the 5K event.

The 9th Annual Bank of America Teterboro Airport 5K Run was held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at the Jet Aviation facility, under a hot sun with a 780 temperature and 71% humidity. Teterboro Airport suspended flight operations for about 60 minutes.

This event featured: $12,000 Random Prize Giveaway, $1,000 Super Random Grand Prize, $2,000 Prize Money, ChampionChip Scoring, United Way Mini-Flyer Dashes, Food, and DJ.

The course was flat out and back with only five turns, two water stops and mile clocks on the runway.

The course was certified and the race sanctioned by USA Track & Field and is a Grand Prix Series Race. Run is USATF-NJ NBGP 500 points.

The 2006 5K run benefited 2-1-1, United Way’s statewide free, 24-hour information and referral service that connects people with social services and community programs that can help with everyday health and human service needs.

"Nightmoves" provided DJ entertainment. There were plenty of water stations throughout the race area. Nourishment was available upon the race conclusion. Runners received a "goody bag" upon departing the race.

The Moonachie Volunteer Fire Department provided emergency and first aid services. The Aviation Hall of Fame provided support and Robert Borghi of Leonia provided the Mooney M20J chase plane.

This event was organized by Bergen County United Way. Bank of America was this year’s title sponsor. Presenting Sponsors were the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Jet Aviation and AvPorts. Major Sponsors were ADP, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and PSE&G. Supporting Sponsors were Pfizer Inc., The Hertz Corporation, United Water and Valley National Bank.

The race director was Mark Zenobia (On Your Mark Productions). The event organizer was Krista Garofalo of Bergen County’s United Way. For more photos go to: www.teterboro-online.com ###
